When you become a member of the Common Roots Farm, you directly support a local non-profit organization whose mission is to foster the relationships amongst farmers, educators, youth, families, and the wider community through place-based education and service programs. Our work is to provide several avenues for children, parents, and the community to participate in food education and to build the capacity to provide fresh organic produce for families, our schools and our programs.
In 2017 we provided 1,160 elementary students with monthly farm-to-school nutrition lessons, supplied 30 at-risk families with our organic produce, and started a 4-acre farm and farmstand. Our work strengthens and supports our local food systems, provides food security and affirms our local environment. In doing so, we celebrate the soil and soul of our community and nurture our own common roots.
The Common Roots Farmstand will operate just like a small grocery store, offering a variety of quality local artisan products such as bread, frozen meats, cheeses, honey, prepared foods, fruit, herbal medicines, plant starts, and dry goods, while providing you with our farm fresh organic vegetables.
Produce will include….Tomatoes, Lettuce, Carrots, Culinary Herbs, Kale, Squash, Peas, Spinach, Potatoes, Chard, Onions, Cucumbers, Peppers, Garlic, plus many delicious others!
How does it work?
Become a CSA member and receive a discount on all your purchases from the farmstand. The more you give, the greater your discount. The farmstand will be self-service only. You are free to visit the farmstand and purchase whatever you want, whenever you need to. All items purchased along with their cost will be recorded by you on an index card and put into a “receipt” box. Your descending credit balance will be recorded by you in a separate membership binder. You will be fully responsible for keeping track of your balance.
