The POP Club is a nationally recognized farmers market club for kids. Studies show that one of the most powerful ways to influence purchasing choices is to appeal to children. That’s why the fast-food industry targets much of their advertising towards kids; it’s also why Farm to School programs have become so popular.
Inspired by the Oregon City Farmers Market, the South Burlington Farmers Market and Common Roots are taking part in a national movement to educate and inspire children to make healthy food choices – by putting the buying power directly in their hands!
How the POP Club works
The POP Club is open to kids ages 5-12. Here’s how it works:
- Sign up for POP Club at the South Burlington Farmers Market. Just stop by the POP Club tent! New members receive a free reusable POP club shopping bag and a “Passport to Health.”
- When POP Club members attend the Market, they check in at the POP Club tent to stamp their passports.
- Our POP Club educator shares a fun food lesson and taste test, then POP Club participants receive a $3 token to spend at any produce vendor’s stand.
- Tokens are valid only at the South Burlington Farmers Market and do not expire.
The 2015 Farmers Market season runs every Sunday from June 7- October 11. POP Club members who attend the Market each week receive a total of $60 in tokens to spend on fresh, local produce!
How much does it cost?
The 2015 POP Club is supported by a generous donation from Merchants Bank of Vermont! Additional registration fees to help cover costs of this dynamic program are based on a sliding scale, according to what families feel they can contribute.
