Farm to School

farmtoschool2

This comprehensive program is delivered to all South Burlington School District elementary classrooms.

Key Facts:

  • Engages preschool – grade 5 students through monthly culinary lessons with taste tests that promote life-long healthy eating habits
  • Empowers children to grow and prepare their own food, introducing them to their local food system
  • Nurtures positive relationships between children, families and our organic farm
  • Currently serving 1,.265 students in 62 classrooms

Students learn about how foods are grown and how food systems bring food to our tables. Our engaging curriculum is presented once a month by a trained Common Roots Educator.

Lessons nurture lifelong healthy eating habits, including encouraging healthy school lunch menu choices. Students experience the colors, tastes, and textures of a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and other food products including honey, maple syrup, and herbs.
