Farm to School: Spring is Fresh, Fruity, and a Little Rooty!

From zest to juice: A hands-on lesson in fresh flavors and healthy habits with our Farm to School team.

Common Roots Farm to School

Common Roots

This spring, students in grades K–5 across all three South Burlington elementary schools brightened their day with one of Common Roots’ favorite seasonal lessons: “Rooty Fruity Juice!”

Students made and sampled fresh organic juice using apples, carrots, and ginger while learning about healthy food, farming, and nutrition.

Students also learned about phytonutrients, which Common Roots educators describe as the body’s “fix-it workers.”

Common Roots’ Farm to School program currently reaches more than 70 classrooms each academic month throughout South Burlington elementary schools.

In May, the fruit-and-root connection continued with “Spring Sliders,” featuring radishes and sprouts grown at the Common Roots Farm.
