Common Roots Farmstand at the South Burlington Food Shelf
After more then a decade of growing nutrient-dense foods for families to select we a dynamic model: offering fresh produce to the South Burlington Food Shelf for families and households to select.
Common Roots sets up a Farmstand each time the Food Shelf is open from early May to Thanksgiving.
In 2021 we will provide approximately 33% (8000 lbs) of our certified, fresh produce and local products to the Farmstand at the South Burlington Food Shelf.
Over a decade of growing nutrient-dense foods for families we moved to a new model in 2020 with the opening of the South Burlington Food Shelf.
Interns and volunteers set up a Common Roots Farmstand each time the Food Shelf is open from early May to Thanksgiving. Farm-fresh harvest or conserved, cold storage food will be delivered weekly until about February. Our cooking demos will return once it is Covid-safe.
Local chefs prepare hundreds of nourishing balanced dinners several times a year. Social workers in our schools distribute dinner meal certificates to families. Menus are planned and executed with our catering partners. These collaborative meals are the brainchild of Chef Jim at the Mill Market and Deli.
