The mobile Farmstand at the Food Shelf

Volunteers & Interns

We are deeply grateful to the contributions of our volunteers and interns. You are the face of Common Roots to many of our visitors. From planting to weeding to harvesting and helping to prepare meals with Chef, you are the vitality that gives Common Roots our very heart — and the capacity to support our Three Pillars

UVM and South Burlington High School connect us with over 60 interns in any given year. Interns and volunteers find connection stocking and staffing our Farmstand and helping supply the food shelf, as well as supporting our food education programs.

Thanks to all of you — and if you haven't yet but would like to join us, just fill in the form below!

Internships

Our college internships draw students from the University of Vermont, Champlain College, and Saint Michael's College, along with other colleges and universities. Over the years we have engaged a growing number of students in our programs and enterprises, offering dozens of internships annually. Students build marketable skills in agriculture, environmental advocacy, nutrition, and food systems while gaining valuable firsthand, life-changing knowledge in education, ecology, and public policy. One recently said, "This is the real deal how-to-be-in-the-world, an opportunity like no other." We also engage a growing number of students from several local high schools.

I saw with my own eyes how excited people were about nutrition-based education — I was able to make a difference for the community, all the while learning each step of the way!

Volunteering

Volunteers help us in every capacity — from farming to Farmstand, from kitchen to hospitality, from administrative work to gardening. We appreciate your helping hands and your skills and passion in all aspects of the work we do!

I'd Like to Volunteer!

Meaning, purpose, and connection are just three of the reasons we give our time to Common Roots. It really is a joyous place!"
